You caKearsley Brook supplied water to at least two mills in cConisbrough, Wilsons Saw Mill and a Bonemill.  Each mill had its own header pond to regulate the flow of water over the mill wheel. The one at the saw mill was we believe to have been an undershot wheel wheras the on at the bone mill was an over shot.  The brook was fed from a spring and it also supplied water to to Nicholson's brewery.  There may have been another mill further upstream but no details have been found to prove this.  The water supply is unpredictable and it will often have a reduced flow in the summer.
