Conisbrough Ivanhoe Cycling Club Mr Raymond Longley, general secretary of Conisbrough Ivanhoe Cycling Club for seventeen years has been elected president of the club after relinquishing his position of secretary in favour of a younger man.
Mr Longley a Clerk at Doncaster Plant Works and living on Doncaster Road, Conisbrough, has been one of the outstanding figures on the administrative side of cycle racing in this district for more than ten years.
When the South Yorkshire Track League was at the height of its popularity in the early 1950s drawing as many as one hundred competitors to the mid week meetings at Brodsworth, he was their chief organising secretary.  In addition he organised all the Don Valley Cycling Associations time trials for a good many years and organised Conisbrough Ivanhoe Cycling Clubs open '25' from its inception in 1954 until 1960.
Now Mr Longley plans to play a less active part in the sport, but he will still organise the Conisbrough Clubs open road race next Whitsun.
